I almost asked a guy where he got his purse today, and then I remembered I can’t speak French. People ask if I notice the style here. Not really. I notice the men’s style more. It’s more flamboyant. The women’s style is pretty simple. Skinny pants & tall boots with a skirt or 2 thrown in. Tons of scarf’s. One of the dad’s at Thomas’ school makes me smile every day. He pulls up in his BMW station wagon & hops out wearing his skinny jeans and bright purple jacket. (Very similar to this one. http://www.brian-atwood.com/newest-fashion-moncler-men-branson-hooded-down-jackets-purple.html# ) With a scarf wrapped around his neck of course. I know I’m not a stylish person and I’m sure he paid a lot of money for this coat, but he still makes me giggle. Maybe it’s the combination of the tight pants & brightly colored coat. I catch myself wondering how the French men ever get … um…well … how they…how there are so many of them.
While at the library this morning I started reading the book “A Year in the Merde” by Stephen Clarke. Guess I can’t read that at the library anymore. I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud; I had tears rolling down my cheeks. At least reading this confirms for me I’m not the only one experiencing culture shock and difficulty getting a decent passport photo taken. (He had to have his passport / visa photo’s re-taken as well.)
Finally today… the beer. I realize that France is known for its wine, but every now and then only a beer will do. It’s so different here. The bottles they sell are ½ pints, but they have the same (if not more) alcohol content. It’s so funny to see Bryan holding this tiny little bottle in his hand.

We can skype whenever you need some southern english
ReplyDeleteSome call it style, others flamboyant hahaha.

Loving your blog!! We have all laughed our heads off and the kids said, "I'm a little scared to go there, Mom!" Kidding of course - we are SO excited!! I will try weird food with you and we can ride the bus. Once they get a load of Graham in France, everyone will remember we were there!! :) I am applying for passports for the kids Monday morning, and when we book our tickets I will send you the dates.
